Imagine the pirates that roamed around the western seas stealing women and killing the men... not to mention kidnapping boys and girls to sell in far-off countries away from families back in the home island... imagine our Palauan ancestors faced with all these terrible deeds no man or woman should ever witness but they stood firm and strong for thousands of years against the storm that has brought us here today!
Now a more urgent and dangerous storm is upon us and that is the phenomenon known as Climate Change. Effects of this angry character of Nature will drown a large part of our island country from the sea-level rise as a result of warming of the earth,... not to mention the frequent surges of storms, heavy rainfalls, land-slides, etc... with negative effects on our food security and way of life.
As descendants of the Palauan ancestry from the few of a little over 4,000 after the Second World War in the Pacific, we must show strength in difficult times to keep our unique heritage alive for many years to come for the sake of our children and the many generations yet to come.
